Model Highlights
V7 CHANGES EVERYTHING TO REMAIN FAITHFUL TO ITS LEGEND.
New engine, revamped design, brand new equipment: the legend of the V7 reaches its highest expression.

1. THE NEW V7: EVOLUTION IN KEEPING WITH TRADITION.
Created in 2008, the V7 Classic won over enthusiasts with its design inspired by the famous forerunners, V7 Special and Sport from the seventies, but combined with the technology and usability of a modern Moto Guzzi. Later on the V7 Cafè in 2009 and the exclusive V7 Racer the year after contributed to the success of the V7 Classic, first appearing as a show bike at EICMA 2009 before production began at the unanimous demand of the markets until it well exceeded the barrier of 1000 units sold.
These three models completed the range which was able to rekindle youthful memories for more expert bikers, memories of trips and friendships experienced in the sixties and seventies, when the motorcycle represented a symbol of freedom and non-conformism. These values, sustained by a brand that celebrated ninety years of history, made the V7 a bike which fully expressed the passion and skill of the rider.

The new Moto Guzzi V7 project begins with an examination of its identity: elegant, Italian, two cylinder, affordable and with a unique history. In order to preserve the traits of this personality and project it into the future, the only path that could be taken was that of totally innovating it within a perimeter of tradition delimited by its technical specifications and its design style. This is why we can say that the V7 is a completely new bike, more powerful, faster, thriftier, more ecological, better refined and more comfortable than the previous version, and yet still with a cardan shaft driven 90° transversal V two cylinder engine and double frame. That is, the distinctive elements of a tradition which has its roots in an idea conceived in 1967: the Moto Guzzi V7 700cc.

2. THE NEW, SINGLE THROTTLE V7 ENGINE.
The original engine design dates back to 1977, the year of the Moto Guzzi 50s fortunate début.

Since then the engine has been continuously updated, sustaining displacements of 350 up to 750 cc, going from carburetor to electronic injection, but staying faithful to the genial layout introduced in the original design by engineer Lino Tonti. Appreciated all over the world for its proverbial reliability and functional regularity, the small block, after many years, needed a bit more liveliness at high rpms.

And so, the search for greater performance opened the door to a new design, rich with innovative solutions that project this engine among the most advanced in its category with more than 70% new parts, equal to more than 200 new or redesigned mechanical organs.

This design freshness can already be seen in the layout of the thermal group which is a summary of the design philosophy for the entire bike: innovation which respects tradition. And so it is that the square finning, legacy of production from the 1980s, passed the baton to a rounded shape which is reminiscent of the first generation of two cylinders from Mandello.
The valves cover is also a homage to the origins of the V7; made in aluminium, it faithfully covers the profile of the finning, showing off the Moto Guzzi signature in bas-relief. Another element which is immediately recognisable is the disappearance of the two intake manifolds and relative throttle bodies: in fact, the new small block is the first single throttle Moto Guzzi engine.
The manifolds were replaced by a single Y manifold made of rubber, completely ribbed and straight (diameter of 36 and 39 mm respectively from the injector groups and the throttle body) which links to a single Magneti Marelli MIU3G 38 mm diameter throttle body.

This is a modern unit which allows two lambda probes to be managed, thereby obtaining a mixture to the cylinders which is more uniform with consequent improvement in fuel economy and harmful emissions, besides contributing to the increase in performance, which was the goal of the entire design. For this purpose a new head was designed, working on the intake ducts, now larger in diameter and better linked to reduce losses and increase turbulence, as well as repositioning the spark plug hole more centrally, thanks to the use of a more modern plug with d=10mm threading and a prominent electrode.

The squish area and the compression ratio is also increased, thanks to the use of new, higher performance pistons which increased the ratio by one point, going from 9.2 to 10.2. In addition to the pouches obtained at the top of the piston, the bottom of these are completely redesigned to make the structure more sturdy without increasing the weight. The segments are also new, with more modern sizes, material and shapes, and they contribute to improving efficiency and oil consumption.

The general efficiency of the engine stems from the contribution of the new cylinder finning, greater dimensions and wheelbase which lowered average operating temperatures, and the new filter casing, redesigned to accommodate the "breathing" needs of the two cylinder from Mandello.

With this new configuration, the two cylinder from Mandello became significantly more sturdy in engine torque and above all in maximum power, growing 12% with higher inclination for spurts and a power curve which expresses its additional horses already from 3500 rpm.

The transmission has also been revamped, still five speeds, but with a new pre-selector which has made control more precise, smooth and quiet.

3. DESIGN: SKILFUL ALCHEMY BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERNISM.
The design of the new V7 tells of the historic lineage of the model through a mix of forms and volumes which cite the famous ancestors, from the V7 750 Special remembered in the accents and the side panels, to the V7 Sport, which influenced the tank, the main new feature introduced in the new V7.

A change in look, now more imposing in form and capacity, the new tank brings with it a superior material perception of metal with respect to polyethylene, the material which was used to make the previous unit. This is thanks to the most advanced moulding technologies which allow construction of a metallic tank which is the same size, but lighter and with greater capacity (22 l) compared to the previous polyethylene unit. This is further proof of the design philosophy that guided the entire V7 project where innovation of the processes restored the pleasure to the rider of gripping a real, resounding metal tank in true Moto Guzzi tradition.

The rest of the new V7 design confirms that alchemy of tradition and modernism introduced in 2008 with the first V7 Classic, where, through the generous chrome trim, enthusiasts will be able to appreciate the cigar shape of the silencers, the dials on the instrument panel, clearly inspired by the Veglia-Borletti from the 1970s, the flat and long saddle, with the proud "Moto Guzzi" inscription emblazoned on the rear part as well as the new valves covers.

The Moto Guzzi V7, iconic and prestigiously manufactured, is now available in three version, two touring and one sport, respectively the V7, V7 Special and the V7 Sport. Just like in 1971 when the sport version completed a range made up of the dominating V7 and V7 Special.

4. THE FRAME: THE CERTAINTY OF THE DOUBLE CRADLE, THE NEW, LIGHTENED WHEELS.

The double cradle frame, with bolted and removable lower elements, is a key element of the V7 project and it has not undergone any changes compared with the previous version.

This is a unit of legendary solidity and sturdiness thanks in part to the headstock angle of 27°50', an angle which ensures stability and directional precision.

The Marzocchi fork is also confirmed, using 40 mm stanchions and equipped with dust boots in the Racer version, with 130 mm travel.

Sachs shock absorbers for the V7 and the V7 Special with adjustable spring preload and offering 118 mm of travel, while the Racer, as usual, stands out with a pair of refined Bitubo WMT gas shock absorbers equipped with an external tank. The brake system consists of a 320 mm floating front disc and a 260 mm rear disc.

The entire range is now equipped with one of two different types of new wheels: in lightweight alloy with doubled six spokes for the V7, spoked with new aluminium rim for Special and Racer. A reduction in weight for all three compared to the previous version which means an advantage in terms of gyroscopic inertia which translates on the road into greater agility and superlative feel.
The Pirelli Sport Demon tyres which are standard equipment on all three versions also contribute to the efficient and safe ride.

5. THE ORIGINS OF THE LEGENDARY V7.
The year was 1961 and the success of the mass produced car was radically reorganizing the motorcycle market. Moto Guzzi, empowered with enviable design capacity reacted to the unfavourable circumstances by exploring new markets, from delivery tricars to agricultural machinery and special vehicles - even cars. For the latter, the genius designer Giulio Cesare Carcano designed a two cylinder 90° V air cooled engine destined for a sport version of the Fiat 500, capable of touching 140 km/h.
They liked the new engine in Lingotto, but the annual quantity that Vittorio Valletta requested exceeded the production capacity of the Mandello del Lario plant, so the agreement never came to fruition.

Engineer Carcano, however, did not lose heart and he increased the size of the two cylinder engine to 754cc to use it on the "3X3", a popular, variable track three wheel drive vehicle destined for the Alpine troops. At the same time a ministerial tender was launched to provide motorcycles for the Highway Police; the winner would be whoever could travel 100,000 km with the lowest maintenance cost. It was the right occasion to place engineer Carcano's two cylinder on a bike, the Moto Guzzi V7. It was an innovative project that combined the reliability of automotive standards with a level of comfort and mechanical affordability unknown to the competition that arose the curiosity even of foreign police forces, Los Angeles being among the first. The commissioning of the new V7 began in 1964. The bike had a 703.3 cc engine which developed 40 hp and it weighed 230 kg. In 1966 mass production began, destined for the police department and foreign markets, while the next year the V7 was distributed in Italy at the competitive price of 725,000 lira, much more convenient than the German and English competition.

6. EVOLUTION ACCORDING TO LINO TONTI.
Giulio Cesare Carcano's creation was perfected by an expert designer who joined Moto Guzzi in 1967: Lino Toni. Hailing from Forlì, with a great deal of experience in competitions with Mondial, Bianchi and Gilera, the engineer was called on by the general manager Romolo Stefani to expand the range of the maxi-bike from Mandello del Lario. The V7 appeared at the right time, bikes were coming domineeringly back into fashion almost as a reaction to the conformism of the car and the market is particularly open to innovations. The first thing Tonti did was to increase the engine size to 757 and the power to 45 hp to launch the V7 special in 1969, faster, more refined and elegant compared to the V7. Then he created, initially for the American market, the V7 Ambassador and the California, the latter destined to be one of the great Moto Guzzi success stories. The next milestone coincided with Lino Tonti's masterpiece: the V7 Sport. The designer from Forlì had clear ideas and he set the three parameters of the sport bike from Mandello: 200 km/h, 200 kg, 5 gears. To reach the objective he made some changes to the engine, taking the displacement to 748.3 cc and the power to more than 52 hp, redesigning the crankshaft and camshafts, in addition to placing the alternator in the front in order to keep the vertical bulk down.

The engine was lodged in a tight, double cradle frame, painted red for the first 200 units made in CrMo and assembled directly in the experience department on via E.V. Parodi, No. 57. The bike made its début in 1971 and in June of the same year it participated in the "500 kilometres of Monza" race taking third place with Raimondo Riva. And this was the beginning of a series of flattering results obtained in endurance races such as the 24 Hour Le Mans and Liegi races which would contribute, together with very popular riders such as Vittorio Brambilla, to making it the most famous Italian sport bike of the 1970s.

7. FROM THE V7 TO THE 850 GENERATION.
Over a couple of seasons the technological evolution which was achieved with the V7 Sport Moto Guzzi was also transferred to the rest of the range. The new frame, the four pad front brake and the five speed transmission introduced on the V7 Sport represented, together with the increased engine size, the primary innovations of the V850 GT, a model which would mark the retirement of the lucky V7 Special in 1973. The Sport would also lose the famous alphanumeric name, replaced in 1974 by the Moto Guzzi 750S. The last model to give up the glorious alphanumeric name was the V7 850 California, which would not pass the baton to the new 850 T California until 1976.

Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX, 2012

Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX, 2012

Riding pleasure at its best.

The NTX is the more "adventurous" version of the Stelvio, and now has all the technical features of the base version, plus some exceptional new fixtures, i.e. the sturdy "armour" that embraces it and comprises the oil sump guard, engine guard, cylinder guard, full cover hand-guards and extra large windshield with additional wind deflectors to protect the rider and his bike against the hidden dangers throughout his trip.

Named after the famous Alpine pass that connects Valtelline Valley to Vinschgau Valley with 84 amazing s-bends between them, Stelvio has launched Moto Guzzi back among the stars of the maxi enduro world. A highly appreciated bike that has now reached a coming of age at a technical-functional level, thanks to the updates and final tweaking undergone by the new 1200 8V and NTX.

It all starts with style, now even more attractive and trendy rounding off the fuel tank by integrating it within the lightweight fairing, which now highlights a clearly smooth streamlined effect which flows into the double front headlight assembly. The latter feature is a distinctive element of the Stelvio design, and the only detail inherited from the previous version. The top fairing, windshield and the half-fairing with integrated turn indicators are all brand new elements that combine to give the front-end of the Stelvio 8V a cutting-edge, more aggressive and dynamic look. It has an original design, but it is above all more functional and versatile, features that are of uppermost importance on models of this type. From an objective standpoint, the style of the new surfaces emphasises two fundamental project milestones compared to the previous version: more efficient aerodynamic protection, thanks to the new top fairing and practically twice fold range capacity thanks to the outstanding new fuel tank with a 32 litre record capacity.

The new Stelvio bike has an air of complete renovation about it, fine examples being the cockpit with brand new graphs on the on-board control panel, a new increased scale fuel indicator.

The heart that beats inside this touring bike is the renowned V-shaped 90° transverse twin-cylinder "Four valve" engine, the highest performer among all the families of engines manufactured at Mandello del Lario, which has now reached exclusive levels as far as its technical/performance development is concerned.

The latest version can boast the careful attention paid to achieve a more silent and smooth running of the engine, whilst tweaking the electronic control, timing system and cooling system. The brand new integrated ignition and injection ECU now exploits the signals sent by the two lambda probes to guarantee adequate feeding throughout the entire combustion cycle, improving response to the throttle control, low-to-mid-range power delivery further to consumptions and emissions. The ECU also includes the ATC system to prevent sliding: this system controls ignition advance and injection to cut torque delivery whenever a sudden loss of grip is detected so as to help the rider to remain in control under extreme, unexpected conditions. The system can be deactivated, just like ABS.

The engine now boasts a maximum torque of over 113 Nm delivered at a mere 5,800 rpm and easily reaches a peak in output of over 105 HP; it practically reaches an automobile-level speed of 7,250 rpm.

A bike dedicated to long haul travellers naturally needs luggage space, hence the spacious aluminium panniers and additional halogen lights. Even more luxury options are available on the accessory catalogue including a GPS navigator installation kit, heated hand-grips, CA.RC protection (Compact Reactive Cardan Shaft Drive), aluminium top box for the NTX or side wind deflectors, extra large windshield, dedicated body coloured plastic polymer panniers and top box kit for the 1200 8V version.

The new Stelvios are available in Guzzi Black, Moon White and Sienna colour schemes, while the NTX will flaunt a brand new colour concept on a black satin finish base (Lava Black).

The COMFORT:
The Stelvio 1200 8V and NTX are great tourers that can also be used off-road, and with excellent performance on asphalt. These characteristics emerge immediately once you are seated on the bike, where the perception of carefully-designed ergonomics can be felt straightaway: saddle, footrests and handlebar form a perfect triangle for all users. Moreover, for the perfectionists, there is still room for minor adjustments: windshield, saddle height (820 or 840 mm), handlebar inclination, levers, pedals, as well as race-style adjusters for hydraulic compression/rebound damping. In a few seconds, everything is at the right place to face any challenge, from city traffic to the most inaccessible off-road paths. In motion, reduced vibration and the efficient aerodynamic protection offered by the new top fairing and windshield and original side wind deflectors (dedicated for NTX) ensure riding comfort for rider and passenger as well, ideal to tackle long trips.

Major improvements are also found in the controls, with a new dashboard including a 12V power outlet, a new fuse box compartment, cockpit and instrument panel with new rpm indicator graphics and a dash display with six-mark fuel indicator that integrates with on-board computer functions such as average and current consumption, average speed, trip time, maximum speed peak reached and diagnostics. The display also lets you control hand grip heating (option) and activate the ATC system, fitted as standard on both models.

CHASSIS, SUSPENSION AND BRAKES
Designed for non conventional paths.

You should not be mislead by its luxury off-road appearance: the Stelvio 1200 8V and NTX feature driving effectiveness superior to the average of many road motorcycles, since they are equipped for the unexpected and able to withstand any off-road driving strains.

The secret is the new upper twin spar frame, made of high-strength steel, with 2.5mm thick directional tubes, where the engine is anchored through six connecting points, two more than in usual frames, which give high rigidity to the assembly at twisting moments.

Chassis positions have been defined to facilitate handling, a headstock with a 27° inclination for a 125mm trail, improved by a 1535-mm wheelbase which guarantees impeccable steering precision.

High quality suspension whose adjustable preload and hydraulic response during compression and rebound combine to ensure instant, smooth response to pressure on the handlebar. The front end is controlled by a new upside-down Marzocchi fork, with 45mm stanchions and 170mm travel, whereas at the rear, suspension kinematic mechanisms with progressive rising rate are moved by a Sachs unit that works on a 155mm stroke.

The refinement of the suspension department guarantees a neutral setting at all times. When going out of a bend, and the action of the 105 horsepower generated by the new "Quattrovalvole" engine is requested, or when braking, under the quick deceleration generated by the three-disc Brembo braking system supported by the deactivatable Continental ABS, fitted as standard on NTX and Stelvio 1200 8V. Both sport a new couple of 320mm front brake discs with a new holder flange, while retaining a 282mm brake disc at the rear. Innovation also for the wheels which boast a cutting-edge designed set of light alloy rims with 150/70-17 rear tyre, new on the 1200 8V version, previously exclusively mounted on the NTX, which comes standard with tubeless spoked wheels (patented Alpina STS system).

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION.
The "Quattrovalvole" evolution continues.

The Stelvio 1200 8V and NTX boast the latest evolution of the "Quattrovalvole" engine", introduced in 2006 and universally acknowledged as the most advanced version of the V-shaped 90° transverse twin-cylinder.

The highly sophisticated mechanical gem, which is unique in terms of both architecture and engineering clarity, is built using advanced componentry and technical solutions. Worth mentioning are the raised cam profile single camshaft timing system driven by silent "Morse" type chains" with hydraulic chain tensioners, the forged pistons with three rings cooled by oil jets in the crankcase, the ultra-light valves in special alloy steel with 5mm stems, and the conical valve springs that eliminate resonance and power loss at high engine speeds. Lubrication and cooling are ensured by two coaxial pumps that circulate lubricant through a separate duct in the head up to the exhaust valve seats, where the highest temperatures develop. The cylinders feature an extremely modern design, with the cooling fins tapered toward the front of the cylinders, while the valve covers - which proudly flaunt the "Quattrovalvole" moniker - feature a floating mounting system to reduce mechanical noise.

As far as the fuel system goes, the "Quattrovalvole" engine premiers the new Marelli IWP 189 injectors located on the intake ducts of the sizeable 50mm throttle bodies, whereas the brand new integrated ignition and injection ECU now exploits the signals sent by the two lambda probes to guarantee adequate fuel metering throughout the entire combustion cycle, improving response to the throttle control, mid range power delivery further to consumptions and emissions. In terms of electronic components, the new Stelvio 1200 8V and NTX debut the ATC system to prevent sliding, an invaluable help in keeping out of trouble in poor grip conditions.

The gearbox is a genuine six speed mechanical gem that excels for quietness, an easily selectable neutral position and precision, thanks also to the quiet and smooth single plate clutch.

Moto Guzzi California 90, 2012

Moto Guzzi California 90, 2012

The career of the glorious California 1100 culminates with a prestigious commemorative version for the 90th anniversary of Moto Guzzi. Built as a limited edition, the California 90 boasts the most luxurious accessories every realised on this glorious model.

After a long and glorious career the California 1100 dedicates a final, precious version to its many fans which celebrates two important events: the 90 year anniversary of Moto Guzzi and the 40 year anniversary of the California model. Introduced in 1971, the first V7 California was built based on the technical specs of the V7 Special, with the difference of a saddle which was as comfortable as an armchair to allow the rider to enjoy the scenery protected from the wind, protected behind the large windshield which, like the saddlebags, was standard equipment. This was the recipe for a successful bike, loved both in Europe and overseas, where the services of the V7 California were enlisted by the L.A.P.D. (Los Angeles Police Department) and later in other American states, besides becoming the official mount back home for the Cuirassier in the service of the President of the Italian Republic.

This legendary Italian bike has evolved continuously, always respecting the original philosophy, in numerous and esteemed versions developed on subsequent increases of engine capacity, going from 750 to 850 with the T model (1973) and then the T3 (1975), famous for its renowned "integral braking".

The 1000 engine size (948cc) was reached in 1981 with the new "square head" engine on the California I, while the public would have to wait until 1994 for the current 1100 engine size version (1064 cc), when the California 1100i made its debut, a model which, decked out in numerous accessories, accompanies us to the present, thus becoming the most successful Moto Guzzi California of the more than 50,000 manufactured on the Mandello del Lario assembly line.

Made with the care and attention of an artisan, the new Moto Guzzi California 90 introduces a brand new, two-coloured chromium plated concept called "Anniversario" which matches the metallic "California" orange colour and the "Diamante" white. The first stretches across the lower part of the California 90, while the white dominates the upper part represented by the top of the tank, the front mudguard and the saddlebags which are elegantly connected by a black line. A distinctive element of this new livery is certainly the logo on the tank, which reproduces the writing used by Moto Guzzi in the early 1930s, the years characterised by the legendary Omobono Tenni. In addition to this, the saddle is hand made from cowhide and on the steering yoke, right in front of the rider, there is an identification plate which certifies the numbered production of this final edition of the California 1100.

The beating heart of the California 90 is the standard two cylinder, big block engine, the latest evolution of an engine which was introduced in 1994 and became famous for its tremendous torque and proverbial reliability. With a bore and stroke of 92 and 80 mm respectively, the 1064 cc unit features aluminium alloy cylinders and pistons with a special wear-resistant graphite coating. Fuelled by the Weber Marelli IAW electronic injection system with 40 mm diameter throttle bodies, it boasts low emissions and a weighty thrust even at low RPMs which stems from a maximum torque output of 94 Nm at just 5,000 RPMs, and further capacity to stretch out to 6,400 RPMs where it puts out its maximum power of 74 HP.

Just like the engine, the chassis aspects of the Moto Guzzi California 90 also share the same characteristics as the Vintage version.

The frame is a faultless modular double cradle with a steering radius of 29° which ensures stability and precision in turns. Comfort is guaranteed by quality suspension components. At the front is a Marzocchi fork with 45 mm stanchions and 140 mm wheel travel while at the rear there is a swingarm linked to two shock absorbers, featuring adjustable spring preload and offering 104 mm of wheel travel. The braking system boasts the best components available on the market: it consists of 320 mm dual front floating disc operated by two precious Brembo callipers with 4 pistons and a 282 mm rear disc with Brembo two-piston callipers. It is also characterised by the famous Moto Guzzi integral braking. Moto Guzzi Bellagio, 2009

Moto Guzzi Bellagio, 2009

ONE MOTORBIKE, ONE PLACE, ONE STYLE.

The new Bellagio symbolises the depth of the relationship between Moto Guzzi and its surrounding territory. This relationship is so strong that the immense beauty of the Lariano area affects both the ideas and creativity of man and in a sense leads him to create works of natural beauty in all his endeavours.

This empathy between the local environment and human inventiveness can be clearly seen in the new Moto Guzzi Bellagio that identifies a place known the world over for its beauty with the free spirit of those that revel in motor cycling. Individuality and sheer style are embodied in a reserved, but sophisticated design that displays highly advanced innovative technological solutions balanced with a trendy image.

The CARC (Reactive Shaft Drive System) is a good example of this advanced technology. This system transforms the might of the new 940 cc engine into silky smooth acceleration making this machine Moto Guzzi’s most powerful naked bike. Other indicators are seen in the presence of the progressive rear suspension system, in the Brembo floating caliper brake system that act on 320 mm discs, in the rear shock absorber and the fully adjustable forks. These technical high quality solutions favour active safety, set a dynamic equilibrium and provide such riding pleasure that the Bellagio is the new point of reference in the category. The Bellagio has the temperament of a naked under the skin of a custom machine. The spoked wheels, drag bar, rear-set saddle and forward positioned footpegs are just a few examples of the details of a style that concentrates weight on the rear wheel giving the impression of a bike that is fixed to the ground, ready to take off at the drop of a hat.

The new 940 cc engine is more than capable of making this machine fly. While the engine is docile and vibration-free, it puts out huge power with immense torque from even very low revs. This power can be heard in the legendary engine note emitted from new twin silencers that sing a song called Bellagio.

FEATURES:
  • New 940 cc engine
  • Progressive rear suspension system
  • Brembo floating caliper brake system that act on 320 mm discs
  • Ffully adjustable forks
  • Sparkling pearlescent white colour schemes that will be available on the Bellagio as the base for an elegant twin colour scheme to contrast with the chrome finish on the frame.
