Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX, 2012

Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX, 2012

Riding pleasure at its best.

The NTX is the more "adventurous" version of the Stelvio, and now has all the technical features of the base version, plus some exceptional new fixtures, i.e. the sturdy "armour" that embraces it and comprises the oil sump guard, engine guard, cylinder guard, full cover hand-guards and extra large windshield with additional wind deflectors to protect the rider and his bike against the hidden dangers throughout his trip.

Named after the famous Alpine pass that connects Valtelline Valley to Vinschgau Valley with 84 amazing s-bends between them, Stelvio has launched Moto Guzzi back among the stars of the maxi enduro world. A highly appreciated bike that has now reached a coming of age at a technical-functional level, thanks to the updates and final tweaking undergone by the new 1200 8V and NTX.

It all starts with style, now even more attractive and trendy rounding off the fuel tank by integrating it within the lightweight fairing, which now highlights a clearly smooth streamlined effect which flows into the double front headlight assembly. The latter feature is a distinctive element of the Stelvio design, and the only detail inherited from the previous version. The top fairing, windshield and the half-fairing with integrated turn indicators are all brand new elements that combine to give the front-end of the Stelvio 8V a cutting-edge, more aggressive and dynamic look. It has an original design, but it is above all more functional and versatile, features that are of uppermost importance on models of this type. From an objective standpoint, the style of the new surfaces emphasises two fundamental project milestones compared to the previous version: more efficient aerodynamic protection, thanks to the new top fairing and practically twice fold range capacity thanks to the outstanding new fuel tank with a 32 litre record capacity.

The new Stelvio bike has an air of complete renovation about it, fine examples being the cockpit with brand new graphs on the on-board control panel, a new increased scale fuel indicator.

The heart that beats inside this touring bike is the renowned V-shaped 90° transverse twin-cylinder "Four valve" engine, the highest performer among all the families of engines manufactured at Mandello del Lario, which has now reached exclusive levels as far as its technical/performance development is concerned.

The latest version can boast the careful attention paid to achieve a more silent and smooth running of the engine, whilst tweaking the electronic control, timing system and cooling system. The brand new integrated ignition and injection ECU now exploits the signals sent by the two lambda probes to guarantee adequate feeding throughout the entire combustion cycle, improving response to the throttle control, low-to-mid-range power delivery further to consumptions and emissions. The ECU also includes the ATC system to prevent sliding: this system controls ignition advance and injection to cut torque delivery whenever a sudden loss of grip is detected so as to help the rider to remain in control under extreme, unexpected conditions. The system can be deactivated, just like ABS.

The engine now boasts a maximum torque of over 113 Nm delivered at a mere 5,800 rpm and easily reaches a peak in output of over 105 HP; it practically reaches an automobile-level speed of 7,250 rpm.

A bike dedicated to long haul travellers naturally needs luggage space, hence the spacious aluminium panniers and additional halogen lights. Even more luxury options are available on the accessory catalogue including a GPS navigator installation kit, heated hand-grips, CA.RC protection (Compact Reactive Cardan Shaft Drive), aluminium top box for the NTX or side wind deflectors, extra large windshield, dedicated body coloured plastic polymer panniers and top box kit for the 1200 8V version.

The new Stelvios are available in Guzzi Black, Moon White and Sienna colour schemes, while the NTX will flaunt a brand new colour concept on a black satin finish base (Lava Black).

The COMFORT:
The Stelvio 1200 8V and NTX are great tourers that can also be used off-road, and with excellent performance on asphalt. These characteristics emerge immediately once you are seated on the bike, where the perception of carefully-designed ergonomics can be felt straightaway: saddle, footrests and handlebar form a perfect triangle for all users. Moreover, for the perfectionists, there is still room for minor adjustments: windshield, saddle height (820 or 840 mm), handlebar inclination, levers, pedals, as well as race-style adjusters for hydraulic compression/rebound damping. In a few seconds, everything is at the right place to face any challenge, from city traffic to the most inaccessible off-road paths. In motion, reduced vibration and the efficient aerodynamic protection offered by the new top fairing and windshield and original side wind deflectors (dedicated for NTX) ensure riding comfort for rider and passenger as well, ideal to tackle long trips.

Major improvements are also found in the controls, with a new dashboard including a 12V power outlet, a new fuse box compartment, cockpit and instrument panel with new rpm indicator graphics and a dash display with six-mark fuel indicator that integrates with on-board computer functions such as average and current consumption, average speed, trip time, maximum speed peak reached and diagnostics. The display also lets you control hand grip heating (option) and activate the ATC system, fitted as standard on both models.

CHASSIS, SUSPENSION AND BRAKES
Designed for non conventional paths.

You should not be mislead by its luxury off-road appearance: the Stelvio 1200 8V and NTX feature driving effectiveness superior to the average of many road motorcycles, since they are equipped for the unexpected and able to withstand any off-road driving strains.

The secret is the new upper twin spar frame, made of high-strength steel, with 2.5mm thick directional tubes, where the engine is anchored through six connecting points, two more than in usual frames, which give high rigidity to the assembly at twisting moments.

Chassis positions have been defined to facilitate handling, a headstock with a 27° inclination for a 125mm trail, improved by a 1535-mm wheelbase which guarantees impeccable steering precision.

High quality suspension whose adjustable preload and hydraulic response during compression and rebound combine to ensure instant, smooth response to pressure on the handlebar. The front end is controlled by a new upside-down Marzocchi fork, with 45mm stanchions and 170mm travel, whereas at the rear, suspension kinematic mechanisms with progressive rising rate are moved by a Sachs unit that works on a 155mm stroke.

The refinement of the suspension department guarantees a neutral setting at all times. When going out of a bend, and the action of the 105 horsepower generated by the new "Quattrovalvole" engine is requested, or when braking, under the quick deceleration generated by the three-disc Brembo braking system supported by the deactivatable Continental ABS, fitted as standard on NTX and Stelvio 1200 8V. Both sport a new couple of 320mm front brake discs with a new holder flange, while retaining a 282mm brake disc at the rear. Innovation also for the wheels which boast a cutting-edge designed set of light alloy rims with 150/70-17 rear tyre, new on the 1200 8V version, previously exclusively mounted on the NTX, which comes standard with tubeless spoked wheels (patented Alpina STS system).

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION.
The "Quattrovalvole" evolution continues.

The Stelvio 1200 8V and NTX boast the latest evolution of the "Quattrovalvole" engine", introduced in 2006 and universally acknowledged as the most advanced version of the V-shaped 90° transverse twin-cylinder.

The highly sophisticated mechanical gem, which is unique in terms of both architecture and engineering clarity, is built using advanced componentry and technical solutions. Worth mentioning are the raised cam profile single camshaft timing system driven by silent "Morse" type chains" with hydraulic chain tensioners, the forged pistons with three rings cooled by oil jets in the crankcase, the ultra-light valves in special alloy steel with 5mm stems, and the conical valve springs that eliminate resonance and power loss at high engine speeds. Lubrication and cooling are ensured by two coaxial pumps that circulate lubricant through a separate duct in the head up to the exhaust valve seats, where the highest temperatures develop. The cylinders feature an extremely modern design, with the cooling fins tapered toward the front of the cylinders, while the valve covers - which proudly flaunt the "Quattrovalvole" moniker - feature a floating mounting system to reduce mechanical noise.

As far as the fuel system goes, the "Quattrovalvole" engine premiers the new Marelli IWP 189 injectors located on the intake ducts of the sizeable 50mm throttle bodies, whereas the brand new integrated ignition and injection ECU now exploits the signals sent by the two lambda probes to guarantee adequate fuel metering throughout the entire combustion cycle, improving response to the throttle control, mid range power delivery further to consumptions and emissions. In terms of electronic components, the new Stelvio 1200 8V and NTX debut the ATC system to prevent sliding, an invaluable help in keeping out of trouble in poor grip conditions.

The gearbox is a genuine six speed mechanical gem that excels for quietness, an easily selectable neutral position and precision, thanks also to the quiet and smooth single plate clutch.

Moto Guzzi California 90, 2012

Moto Guzzi California 90, 2012

The career of the glorious California 1100 culminates with a prestigious commemorative version for the 90th anniversary of Moto Guzzi. Built as a limited edition, the California 90 boasts the most luxurious accessories every realised on this glorious model.

After a long and glorious career the California 1100 dedicates a final, precious version to its many fans which celebrates two important events: the 90 year anniversary of Moto Guzzi and the 40 year anniversary of the California model. Introduced in 1971, the first V7 California was built based on the technical specs of the V7 Special, with the difference of a saddle which was as comfortable as an armchair to allow the rider to enjoy the scenery protected from the wind, protected behind the large windshield which, like the saddlebags, was standard equipment. This was the recipe for a successful bike, loved both in Europe and overseas, where the services of the V7 California were enlisted by the L.A.P.D. (Los Angeles Police Department) and later in other American states, besides becoming the official mount back home for the Cuirassier in the service of the President of the Italian Republic.

This legendary Italian bike has evolved continuously, always respecting the original philosophy, in numerous and esteemed versions developed on subsequent increases of engine capacity, going from 750 to 850 with the T model (1973) and then the T3 (1975), famous for its renowned "integral braking".

The 1000 engine size (948cc) was reached in 1981 with the new "square head" engine on the California I, while the public would have to wait until 1994 for the current 1100 engine size version (1064 cc), when the California 1100i made its debut, a model which, decked out in numerous accessories, accompanies us to the present, thus becoming the most successful Moto Guzzi California of the more than 50,000 manufactured on the Mandello del Lario assembly line.

Made with the care and attention of an artisan, the new Moto Guzzi California 90 introduces a brand new, two-coloured chromium plated concept called "Anniversario" which matches the metallic "California" orange colour and the "Diamante" white. The first stretches across the lower part of the California 90, while the white dominates the upper part represented by the top of the tank, the front mudguard and the saddlebags which are elegantly connected by a black line. A distinctive element of this new livery is certainly the logo on the tank, which reproduces the writing used by Moto Guzzi in the early 1930s, the years characterised by the legendary Omobono Tenni. In addition to this, the saddle is hand made from cowhide and on the steering yoke, right in front of the rider, there is an identification plate which certifies the numbered production of this final edition of the California 1100.

The beating heart of the California 90 is the standard two cylinder, big block engine, the latest evolution of an engine which was introduced in 1994 and became famous for its tremendous torque and proverbial reliability. With a bore and stroke of 92 and 80 mm respectively, the 1064 cc unit features aluminium alloy cylinders and pistons with a special wear-resistant graphite coating. Fuelled by the Weber Marelli IAW electronic injection system with 40 mm diameter throttle bodies, it boasts low emissions and a weighty thrust even at low RPMs which stems from a maximum torque output of 94 Nm at just 5,000 RPMs, and further capacity to stretch out to 6,400 RPMs where it puts out its maximum power of 74 HP.

Just like the engine, the chassis aspects of the Moto Guzzi California 90 also share the same characteristics as the Vintage version.

The frame is a faultless modular double cradle with a steering radius of 29° which ensures stability and precision in turns. Comfort is guaranteed by quality suspension components. At the front is a Marzocchi fork with 45 mm stanchions and 140 mm wheel travel while at the rear there is a swingarm linked to two shock absorbers, featuring adjustable spring preload and offering 104 mm of wheel travel. The braking system boasts the best components available on the market: it consists of 320 mm dual front floating disc operated by two precious Brembo callipers with 4 pistons and a 282 mm rear disc with Brembo two-piston callipers. It is also characterised by the famous Moto Guzzi integral braking. Other standout features are the spoked wheels, with 18 inches at the front and 17 at the rear to cater for high profile tyres, providing outstanding agility and superlative feel.

Kawasaki KLX110, 2012

  • Kawasaki KLX110, 2012

A Minibike for Kids and Adults Alike
Though the KLX110 is bought for “the kids”, adults always seem to discover just how much fun it is. Next thing you know… they’re sneaking seat time from their little ones. The KLX has many grin-inducing properties, including its confidence-inspiring performance and accessibility to young people and grownups alike. It’s easy to see why adults can’t stop riding them!

The versatile motorcycle makes it easy to get going with its push-button electric starting. Just in case, there’s a traditional kick-start lever for backup, but once riders get used to the magic button, they’re likely to forget all about it. The torquey 111cc four-stroke is easy to use. To make the KLX110 even more beginner-friendly, it’s equipped with Kawasaki’s automatic centrifugal clutch system, allowing easy no-clutch shifting. The semi-automatic gearbox boasts four speeds to access the KLX’s full spread of torque.

Optimum wheel and chassis control is a key factor with any beginner/kids bike, and the KLX obliges with quality suspension front and rear. A single shock with 4.3 inches of travel and plenty of bottoming resistance handles things out back, while a beefy, 30mm telescopic fork offering 4.3 inches of wheel travel tames the bumps up front. Tapered roller bearings at the bottom of the steering stem add durability.

The 2012 KLX110 mimics its KX cousins styling-wise. And that’s why the design team outfitted the bike in radical, KX-inspired bodywork: gas tank, seat, side panels, shrouds and fenders look as if they’re straight off the race winning KX450F. A comfortable, MX-style seat is part of the deal, along with a handlebar bend that gives a high degree of comfort and control to a wide variety of riders.

Comfort. Control. Surprising yet manageable power. Great looks. Legendary Kawasaki reliability. Push-button starting. And all this in a small, kid- and novice-friendly package. It’s no wonder adults and veterans love riding little KLX when the kids are tuckered out.

Triumph Tiger 800XC, 2012

  •  Triumph Tiger 800XC, 2012
Tiger 800XC. Built to take it.
Tough. Rugged. Built to last. Loves the open road, devours the rough stuff. The one bike that can do it all, Tiger 800XC sets new standards in the adventure bike sector. With its big wheels and long suspension travel, the Tiger 800XC just loves getting its claws dirty. Let the adventure begin.

Built to take the worst you can throw at it, the Tiger 800 XC has been fully equipped to handle autobahns and green lanes with equal aplomb.

The 800cc three-cylinder engine sets new standards in the adventure bike class, smoothly delivering plentiful torque at low revs for accurate off-road riding and combining it with more than adequate top end power for relaxed high-speed cruising.

With its rugged steel frame and long travel suspension the Tiger 800 XC has been designed for the rough stuff, with a host of optional accessories available for riders planning to spend more time off the pavement than on it.

The high specification includes a factory-fitted immobilizer, adjustable 45mm upside down front forks, adjustable rider seat and hand guards. Adjustable tapered aluminum handlebars add a touch of class and off-road durability to the Tiger 800 XC, while the optional anti-lock braking system can be switched off for off-road riding.

TRIUMPH TIGER 800XC
  • - Smooth long-stroke three-cylinder engine ensures excellent on and off-road manners
  • - Adjustable seat height and handlebar position
  • - Switchable ABS option
  • - 21” front wheel and long travel suspension endows Tiger 800XC with genuine offroad capability
  • - Coded key immobiliser for added security
  • - 645w generator allows fitment of multiple electrical accessories
  • - Wide range of official accessories available even more practicality
Triumph’s new Tiger 800XC is the British company’s first truly ‘go everywhere’ motorcycle, a machine designed and built for adventurers looking for a strong and reliable companion to take them on a round the world trip.

The Tiger 800XC is as tough as they come and capable of coping with the demands of off-piste riding thanks to its tough steel chassis and torque 799cc three-cylinder engine.

Long travel 45mm upside down front forks and rear suspension unit combine with a 21” spoked front wheel to deliver maximum ground clearance and the ability to cope with rough trails. With a high-level front mudguard and sturdy handguards, there can be no
doubt that the latest Tiger has been developed to cope with demanding conditions.

The same qualities that make the Tiger 800XC so competent off-road also lead to an excellent road bike. The rider can adjust both the handlebar position and seat height and whether it is set at 845 or 865mm the Tiger 800XC offers a commanding view above the traffic and a comfortable perch from which to devour the miles. A classleading 19 litre fuel tank ensures infrequent stops for the Tiger 800XC rider, with cavernous hard and soft luggage options available for those who need to take the ‘kitchen sink’ on their two-wheeled tours.

Powering the Tiger 800XC is a new long-stroke triple delivering 95PS and an extremely accessible 79Nm of torque. With its flat torque curve and gentle power delivery, the Tiger 800XC is a pleasure to ride in even the most demanding of conditions.

A sophisticated anti-lock braking system is available as an option and can be deactivated for off-road riding, while the high-specification extends to a standard coded-key immobilizer and rear rack with generous pillion grab handles. Three colour options are available for the Tiger 800XC: Intense Orange, Phantom Black and Crystal White. For 2012, the Tiger 800XC has adopted a graphite colour frame for greater aesthetic appeal.

The comprehensive instrumentation includes a fuel gauge and trip computer, while a high-specification 645w generator is fitted to allow riders to safely fit electrical accessories such as heated grips, auxiliary lights and satellite navigation equipment. A huge range of official Triumph accessories have been developed for the Tiger 800XC’s launch, these include numerous hard and soft luggage
solutions, adjustable touring screen, centre stand and off-road style engine protection bars and sump guard.
